Bodybuilding Legends Show

May 27, 2019

Former IFBB Judge John Calascione talks about the Golden Era of Bodybuilding this week for the Bodybuilding Legends Podcast. John talks about how he started bodybuilding as a teenager in New York and started competing at a young age. John recounts the stories of seeing the Mr. Olympia contest in person when it first started in 1965 and watching Larry Scott win the title in 1965 and 1966, Sergio Oliva's victories from 1967-1969 and Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Olympia wins in 1970, 1973 and 1974. John also shares his version of the ideal bodybuilding physique and his thoughts on women's bodybuilding when it first began. At the conclusion of the podcast, John Hansen reads an article from the March, 1980 issue of Muscle & Fitness magazine called "The Psychology of a Mr. Olympia Competitor" written by Mike Mentzer after he placed second in the 1979 Mr. Olympia contest.
